MBB: Dunks and career highs lead the Cougars to a big win over the Griffins

Sam Barnie gets 28 points as he leads the Cougars to victory.

The Cougars are coming off a split weekend in Winnipeg as they look to get some wins taking on the MacEwen University Griffins at Kenyon Court.

Mount Royal had energy in their possession throughout the first quarter even though the game started with a Griffins field goal and an MRU turnover.

Keeping the possession and the lead, the Cougars had a big lead after the first quarter, 22-9, keeping the Griffins to single digit score.

Kuach Gajak and Daniel Owoeye were both able to get dunks down for the Cougars in the first ten minutes of play while Sam Barnie had 10 points.

Halfway through the second quarter, Kole Scott got a steal, he fed to Faruq Balarabe, who got a dunk down, and right after that Gajak got another dunk for the Cougars as they hold the lead by 19.

Nathanael Ntumba got a dunk down for the Griffins, to be down by 17.

After two quarters of play, the Cougars had the lead 40-20. The home team was led by Barnie with 14 points during the first half while Owoeye had six rebounds.
Diego Presingular had seven points in the first twenty minutes of play for GMU.

The Cougars start the third period forcing the Griffins to take their 14th turnover of the night. The Cougars held a 24-point lead, after a steal and a free throw by Jacob McLellean.

The Griffins had chances but could not capitalize, after missing three straight attempts to start the third quarter.

After a Judson Weir, lay-up the Griffins had some momentum keeping them going at the halfway point of the quarter. As the winger made both his free throws, and Ben Pearson capitalizing on both his shots from the line, Marcus ISO Moore sunk a three, as they trailed by 20, and force the Cougars to take a timeout.

Mount Royal kept their own momentum and challenged the gained energy GMU was having, as they still held a 19-point lead into the final quarter of the game 62-43.

MacEwen had the scoring spread through the score sheet, as ISO Moore had eight points through three quarters and Presingular had nine, Ntumba had eight rebounds.

The Cougars were led by Barnie as he had 19 points through three, and Owoeye had seven points and eight rebounds into the fourth quarter.

With full court action ramping up in the final five minutes of the game for both sides, the Griffins capitalized on a lay-up, as they trailed 73-53.

Tag Layton got the assist on a Desmond Ducheck lay-up the Cougars tried to pull away with the lead by 24.

The Cougars take the win against the Griffins 84-60, as Sam Barnie got a career-high in points with 28 for the night. Oweye for the Cougars had 13 total rebounds. The Griffins were led by ISO Moore with 12 points, and Ntumba had nine rebounds for the night.

The Cougars and Griffins tip off against each other again on Saturday night at Kenyon Court as the Cougars look to get the brooms out to have another sweeping weekend at home.
