MBB: Cougars sweep home opening weekend against the Huskies

Cougars get away with the second win of the weekend in a dramatic finish

The Mount Royal University Cougars take on the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in a rematch after the Cougars took the win for Friday night's game.

The Huskies brought the energy right off tip off, as they took the 10-0 lead almost halfway into the first quarter. The Cougars finally get on the board after Daniel Oweye drains a free throw, as the Huskies lead 11-1.

DJ Roberts charges the net, through the Huskies and gets another two for the Cougars. Jean-Nelson Pigoue, gets through the Huskies defence as the Cougars try to break this point differential. The Cougars get within four, as Kole Scott puts up two. The Cougars are within three as Jose Miguel Alba Gabaldon forces the Huskies to get two fouls and is able three out of four free throws.

The Huskies lead by only one point after the first quarter. Emmanuel Bonsu leads with points in the first quarter by putting up five for the Huskies.

The Huskies set up an alley-oop from Owen Murphy Wiebe, gets it up to Easton Thimm and he capitalizes and gets the points. Dylan Miller gets up a three pointer as the Huskies lead by six.
Kuach Gajak got a take-away goes down the court and lays out for a dunk, while getting the fouls called as he's up and the Cougars are within four, feeling the momentum of the Cougars, Saskatchewan takes a timeout.

The Cougars respond with a three from Jacob McLellan, and he gets a steal and makes the lay-up to take the lead 27-26. Pigoue gets two free throws cashed in, and the Cougars lead by five.

The Cougars maintained the lead into halftime, as they lead by four points. Kole Scott has put away 15 points for the Cougars while Bonsu and Miller have each put up nine points for the Huskies, with Miller also being 3 for 3 in three pointers.

McLellan got another three on the boards for the Cougars as they lead 47-41. Sam Barnie was fouled outside the three-point line, and gets all three free throws cashed in, as the Cougars have a nine-point lead. After a block by Barnie, Desmond Ducheck gets the ball and breaks out, he spins and takes the ball to basket to get the lay up.

Roberts drained a jump-shot, and the Cougars lead the Huskies 58-45. Josiah Roberts gets a three out for the Huskies and they trail by 11.
DJ Roberts got a three cashed in, and after the third quarter the Cougars lead 67-51. Scott has put up 19 points for the Cougars, while Thimm had 13 for the Huskies, while Bonsu had six total rebounds and Gajak had six for the Cougars.

The Huskies were looking to get some plays going, as they capitalize and Thimm gets his 18th point of the night, but the Cougars and Roberts answered right back with a three, as they still hold the lead by 12.

The Huskies got within five points as Bonsu takes the ball down the court and sinks a layup. The Huskies are down by four after Mohamed Jabateh gets two more. The Cougars tried to slow the last two minutes of the quarters down, as the Huskies raced to get something done.

Bonsu drained a three and the Huskies are within four points with thirty seconds left. Scott gets a defensive two for the Cougars and the Huskies take a timeout. The Huskies capitalize and are down by four with seconds left.

The Cougars were able to make away with the win, 83-78. With Scott leading the Cougars with 22 points and three rebounds. The Huskies generated the offence needed throughout the last quarter, as they were led by Bonsu with 21 points on the night.

The Cougars look to keep their winning streak going heading into Manitoba to tip off against the University of Winnipeg Wesmen.
