The Mount Royal University Cougars held their home opener today against their cross town rivals, the University of Calgary Dinos who brought the intensity from the first whistle.

Alexi Watson led the Cougars in the opening minutes with a strong shot from the top of the box, stopped by Dinos goaltender, Hana Morina. The aggressive play was returned immediately when MRU's Katrina Greenley denied a counter attack through traffic from U of C.

Greenley's performance in the net demonstrated she is someone to watch, holding strong against the Dinos 13 shots on goal, earning her the player of the game title.

Montana Leonard put U of C on the board in the 16th minute of play but MRU's Keilyn Stabler denied further opportunities from Calgary for the remainder of the first half with repeated tackles in their defensive zone.

The second half saw an increase in Cougar pressure, seeing huge opportunities from Janai Martens and Kareena Kassam.

Next weekend the Cougars face off against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns at home in their second game of the season.
