MVB: Cougars win with straight set against WolfPack

CALGARY - The Mount Royal University Cougars emerged victorious on their home court against the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack. Energy was high on both sides as the teams battled for a spot in the playoffs.

The set scores were: 25-18, 25-20, 25-20.

For the WolfPack, Charlie Bringloe led with 11 points, seven of which were kills. For the Cougars, Trent Mounter set the pace with 16 points, 13 of which were kills.

The Cougars started the first set off strong with an early lead. The WolfPack soon gained momentum to match their points. Mount Royal once again pulled into a steady lead just before the timeout thanks to some WolfPack attack errors. They managed to maintain the advantage to take the set.

Thompson Rivers took the first advantage of the second set while Mount Royal was slow to start. They soon caught up to trade points, either side unable to get ahead. The Cougars finally broke the stalemate, riding the momentum until the final kill by Trent Mounter.

The WolfPack's Matt Saly opened the scoring for the third, kicking off a streak for the team. Mount Royal soon caught up with several kills, Mounter setting the pace. A kill from Luis Lange tied the score at 10. They matched points until the Cougars took a slight lead, capitalizing on kill opportunities. Mount Royal found a final opening to take their first victory of the decade.

The two teams will face off once more for the season on Saturday, January 18th, on Kenyon Court. It will be broadcasted live on CanadaWest.tv, presented by Co-op.
