CALGARY - The Manitoba Bisons were hosted by the Mount Royal Cougars for a rematch on Kenyon Court.
The scores for each set were: 15-10, 16-24, 21-14, and 29-17. The final score was 81-65.
Taylor Randall set the pace for the Bisons with 23 points, followed by Keziah Brothers with 16. For the Cougars, both Sarah Rinsky and Abbey Gillette came away with 12 points.
After a narrow loss the previous night, the Cougars were looking to make the weekend a split. They started off the scoring with a free-throw and a quick layup, taking an early lead. Manitoba began matching them nearly point for point until a three pointer snuck them into the lead. They managed to push their plays just a bit further to solidify a healthy score gap by the buzzer.
Manitoba's Taylor Randall opened the scoring with a quick three pointer, shortly followed by Cougars' Maddison Hooper stealing one of her own. The Cougars worked hard to narrow the score gap to just two points before evening it out at 23. The teams traded points until Mount Royal's Ella Stanley landed a three pointer to sneak the team into the lead in the final minute of the quarter.
The Bisons once again found an early advantage, earning the first points of the third within seconds. They ran away with the points, taking a six point lead. Mount Royal's Sarah Rinsky broke their streak with a layup followed by Charity Marlatt earning two points of her own. Manitoba's Lauren Bartlett earned a handful of points to solidify her team's lead. With one final effort, the Cougars pushed to close the gap to a mere four points by the end of the quarter.
In the fourth, Manitoba's Emily Johnson landed a layup early on to secure their lead, followed by a quick jumper from Randall. They traded points, the Cougars making every effort to close the gap. The Bisons scored several points to bring their team into a healthy lead in the final minutes. Mount Royal snuck some final baskets in before the buzzer, but were unable to narrow the score.
The Cougars will next face off against the Lethbridge Pronghorns on Thursday, January 16th, on Kenyon Court. It will be broadcasted live on CanadaWest.tv, presented by Co-op.
