Box Score

CALGARY, Alta. - The Mount Royal Cougars continued their winning streak with a 2-0 victory against the Saskatchewan Huskies.

It was a wet Saturday evening as the Huskies were hosted by the Cougars. The field was slick and players were sliding all over, but that didn't stop local food trucks and fans from attending. The game was supported by MRU residence move-in day and the stands were filled with brave students as the two teams competed.

Shortly after the starting whistle, a foul against the Huskies led to a penalty kick for the Cougars. Mohamed El Gandour sent the ball soaring past Saskatchewan's goalkeeper Marcus Baxter to score Mount Royal's first goal of the night.

The two teams battled for control of the field, neither defense letting up. At the 36 minute mark, Cougars' forward Rori Enno found the net for his first goal of the season, assisted by Miguel Da Rocha. The Huskies' defense became even more resistant in response.

The downpour finally let up as the second half started, both teams eager to take the field. At the start of the second half, the Huskies took a shot on net but were unable to sneak past the Cougars' goalkeeper, Kyran Valley.

Huskies' Baxter went down after an attempt on net by El Gandour which landed the Cougars' forward a red card, which was a result of his second yellow of the night.

Just over an hour into the match both sides made substitutions to have fresh legs, resulting in some great chances on net for the Huskies. Mount Royal was also unable to sneak past the visitors defense to increase their lead.

The rain soaked the field once more as the match came to a close and the Cougars walked away with another victory.

MRU is back in action tomorrow, hosting the University of Lethbridge, while the Huskies take on the University of Calgary. The games will be broadcasted live on CanadaWest.tv presented by Co-op.
