Cougars defend home court with boisterous crowd

 CALGARY - The Mount Royal University Cougars hosted the University of Regina Cougars in a fierce game at Kenyan Court. The stands were packed with kids from local schools for the Get School'd event, cheering the men on with an insane amounts of energy. 

The game opened with a slight lead for Regina as they set the tone in the first quarter. The two teams were evenly matched on three-pointers with Regina pulling just ahead going 4-11 to Mount Royal's 3-8. The first quarter finished with the visitors in the lead 22-20. 

The second quarter saw a change of tides in favour of Mount Royal as they outscored 18-24 in the frame. They led in nearly every stat as Regina struggled to hold their ground, losing the overall lead in the game. 

The third quarter was close with both teams struggling from beyond the arc but staying solid at the freethrow line. Mount Royal would win the quarter 28-25 and lead the game 72-65 going into the final ten minutes.

Mount Royal stayed strong in the final quarter shooting 65 percent from the floor. They won the game with a final score of 96-87 in front of the exuberant crowd. 

Regina's point leader was third year forward Carter Millar with 26 points and Mount Royal's fourth year guard Matthew Guinto led his squad with 24. Mount Royal was strong from three shooting 42 percent from beyond the arc.

The two teams play again on Friday, November 8, at 2 p.m. MST on Kenyan court. It will be broadcasted live on CanadaWest.tv, presented by Co-op.
