CALGARY - Mount Royal once again hosted Regina for their home opening weekend on Kenyon court. The home team was fresh from their victory yesterday but Regina was determined to respond.Â
Mount Royal struggled with a slow start in the game as Regina capitalized on their hesitation. Regina took a 24-19 point lead at the end of the first quarter. Mount Royal led in three-point shots with 50 percent of their shots finding the basket in the first quarter.
Regina was taking advantage of some quick passes and movements, causing trouble for the Mount Royal defence . Near the halftime buzzer, Mount Royal's guard Matthew Guinto was injured and taken out of play. As the halftime was called, Regina led with a strong 50-28 lead. They dominated the boards as well with 35 to Mount Royal's 15.Â
Guinto returned for the third quarter, but was soon taken out once more. Regina's third year forward Carter Millar led all players with a game high 17 points. The quarter closed with Regina leading with 78-43.Â
Mount Royal worked hard to close the gap in the final quarter. They responded on the boards in the quarter and held a healthy 66 percent from the free throw line. The final buzzer rang, declaring a Regina victory at 101-59. The loss brings Mount Royal to a 3-1 record and Regina to 1-3.
Mount Royal will be playing next at the University of Alberta on Friday, November 22nd. It will be broadcasted live on CanadaWest.tv, presented by Co-op.
