CALGARY - The Alberta Golden Bears were hosted by the Mount Royal Cougars on Kenyon Court for Student Night. It was a tough match, but the Golden Bears ended up sweeping the Cougars.Â
The Golden Bears entered the game with a record of 6-2 with a kills per set ratio of 11.93. At the beginning of the match, Jordan Canham was their leader in kills with 92.Â
Mount Royal held a record of 4-6 with a kills per set ratio of 11.68. Their kill leader at the start of the night was Trent Mounter with 118.Â
Alberta set the pace for the first set, taking it 25-11. Mount Royal was putting up some strong attacks, but were unable to come out on top.Â
The Golden Bears held steady through the second set with the Cougars fighting back hard. The final score in the set was 25-20 with the Golden Bears leading in kills, 11-8.Â
As the third set opened, the Golden Bears' Braedon Friesen led in points with 11, while Mount Royal's Chris Byam led the Cougars with 5. They were trading points at the halfway point, leading to an uncertain outcome. However, the Golden Bears held onto their lead to sweep the match. The third set ended with 25-21.Â
The two teams face off again on Saturday, November 23rd, at 5 p.m. MST on Kenyon Court. It will be broadcasted live on CanadaWest.tv, presented by Co-op.
