Huskies extend win streak to eight games with 84-44 win over MRU

SASKATOON –  With an 84-44 win over the visiting Mount Royal University Cougars Friday night at the PAC in Saskatoon, the No. 9 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies extended its win streak to eight straight games. 

 

Saskatchewan hasn't lost since December 2 on the road to the Regina Cougars and continues to keep pace with the top of the Canada West women's basketball standings at 11-4.

 

Mount Royal drops to 3-12 with the loss.

 

Five Huskies scored double digits on the night. Point guard Sabine Dukate led the group tallying 17 points, followed by Megan Ahlstrom with 16. Rookie forward Summer Masikewich tallied another 13, while Megan Lindquist scored 12 and rookie Libby Epoch 10. Masikewich and Ahlstrom each recorded seven rebounds.

 

Erin Kehrig led the Cougars in the game with 10 points, while Drew Knox added another eight. Becky Nash led the team with eight rebounds.

 

The Huskies took a commanding lead in the first quarter and never looked back in the game, leading 23-8 after the first quarter and 39-19 at halftime. Saskatchewan's lead was 63-32 entering the final 10 minutes.

 

Mount Royal shot at 30.6% in the game, while Saskatchewan hit 39.1% of the shots.

 

The two teams will meet again Saturday night on Ron & Jane Graham Court at the PAC. Tipoff is at 6:15 p.m.
