WBB: Donnelly, Ramsoomair lead Cougars past Brandon in crucial home win

Shoot for the Cure night at Kenyon Court.
The 8–8 Mount Royal Cougars welcomed the 5–9 Brandon Bobcats to Kenyon Court on Friday night, as both teams battled for position with the regular season winding down and playoff implications on the line.

The opening quarter was tightly contested, with both teams placing an early emphasis on offence. Cougars guard Asha Donnelly got off to a hot start, knocking down a barrage of three-pointers to fuel MRU's attack. Brandon answered through guard Piper Ingalls, who connected on two triples of her own, but the Bobcats trailed 22–17 at the end of the first quarter.

Cougars forward Jenessa Ramsoomair made her presence felt throughout the first half, contributing 12 points and six rebounds. Mount Royal continued to build momentum in the second quarter, outscoring Brandon 28–11 in the frame.

The Cougars carried a commanding 50–28 lead into halftime, powered by the play of Donnelly and Ramsoomair, along with strong team defence across the lineup.

The Bobcats came out with renewed energy in the third quarter, searching for the momentum needed to mount a comeback behind the play of Ingalls. Mount Royal answered, however, keeping Brandon at arm's length for much of the frame.

The Cougars stayed hot from beyond the arc, shooting 52 percent from three-point range as a team through three quarters of play. Brandon continued to chip away late in the period, led by forward Ella Averill, who scored several key buckets to keep the Bobcats within reach. Mount Royal forwards Alexis Evans and Nora Luca responded at the other end, helping the Cougars maintain control and carry a 73–52 lead into the final quarter.

Brandon showed resilience early in the final frame, but the Cougars held firm down the stretch and closed out a 77–58 victory.

Player of the Game: Jenessa Ramsoomair, who led the Cougars with a double-double, finishing with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
