Mount Royal completes the season sweep in the battle of the Cougars

CALGARY, AB – Mount Royal completed the season series sweep of Regina, winning the finale 7-3 this afternoon at Flames Community Arenas.

Matt Brown, Tanner Olstad, Jamie King, Riley Point, Tyler Fiddler, Connor Rankin and David Stephens scored for Mount Royal. Sanfred King, Trent Lofthouse and Magnus Christian tallied for Regina.

Sanfred King opened the scoring for Regina early in the first period. Poor defensive coverage by Mount Royal left Colin Cooper at the mercy of King who buried the game's opening goal.

Matt Brown then equalized with one of the best individual efforts you will see in CIS hockey. Brown cut in and put the puck hard under the bar, from an impossible angle, destroying the water bottle in the process.

Tied at two in the third period, Jamie King broke the deadlock with a gutsy effort in front of the net. King was hit on the side of the knee with a slap shot, but managed to fight through the pain and bang home the go ahead goal.

Mount Royal scored four more times to seal the victory and move into second place in the conference.

Mount Royal moves to 15-6-3 and temporarily into second place in the conference. Regina falls to 5-19-0 and has officially eliminated from the playoffs.

Lethbridge will host the UBC Thunderbirds for two games next weekend.

Mount Royal will play a home and home with the Lethbridge Pronghorns beginning on Friday night.
