HEADLINES:
The Huskies come into town as the nation's #2 ranked team. The Cougars sit just outside the national ranking but have already upset the powerhouse Alberta Golden Bears. The Huskies and Cougars rivalry intensified last season in a heated three game series that Mount Royal ended up winning.
THE SERIES:
The Huskies lead the all-time regular season series 8-4 over the last three seasons. Mount Royal did however beat them 2-1 in their lone playoff series last season.
MOUNT ROYAL COUGARS (4-2-2)
The Cougars have battled for consistency this season but seemed to have played their best hockey against their strongest opponents. The Cougars took three of four points off Alberta, then promptly split their series with Lethbridge, narrowly losing at home on Friday night. The Cougars have two players in the top ten in scoring in Matt Brown and Tyler Fiddler. Colin Cooper has been sensational in his six appearances going 4-1-1 in relief of Cam Lanigan.
SASKATCHEWAN HUSKIES (7-1-0)
The Huskies have dominated conference play this year defeating perennial favourites Alberta and Calgary. Rookie sensation Andrew Johnson is tied for the league lead in goal scoring with Mount Royal captain Matt Brown. Johnson is currently the lone rookie in the top ten in scoring. Jordan Cooke, former CHL Goalie of the Year with the Kelowna Rockets, is enjoying his first full season as a starter in the CIS. In 7 starts Cooke is 6-1-0 with a 2.52 goals against average and .930% save percentage.
