HEADLINES:
Mount Royal had a breakout season in 2015-16, finally taking the next step and making the playoffs. A combination of some high end recruits and new coaching structure, has Mount Royal looking like a legitimate threat now and in years to come.
THE SERIES:
The two sides have only met once, in Mount Royal's first year in the CIS. Victoria won the game and the two squads have not played each other since.
MOUNT ROYAL COUGARS (7-4-1; 3rd in the East Division)
The Cougars finally reached their goal of the playoffs this season. However, they aren't just happy to be there, they expect to win. Head Coach Ryan Gyaki has high expectations for his squad as they head into Victoria. Cody Cook, one of the league's top talents, may finally be recognized as a Canada West All-Star in this fourth season. Cook is second in Canada West in assists (8) and points (13), despite playing only nine games.
VICTORIA VIKES (6-6-3; 2nd in the East Division)
Victoria was in jeopardy of losing home field advantage in the first round. They needed two timely wins over UFV and TWU to solidify a home date this weekend. Cam Hundal is the biggest threat offensively for the Vikes. Hundal led all teammates in goals (8), assists (5) and points (13). Noah Pawlowski played every minute of every game for the Vikes this season, registering a goals against average of 1.50. Pawlowski was 6-3-3 with three shutouts.
