UBC HOLDS ON FOR THEIR SECOND WIN OF THE WEEKEND
Calgary â€" The Mount Royal Cougars lost to the UBC Thunderbirds 67-59. Kris Young led the way for UBC with 20 points. Young was followed closely by Harleen Sidhu, as she netted 19 points. Jordan McLean and Alicia Tan both led the way for Mount Royal with 17 points each.

UBC came out strong in the first quarter putting Mount Royal in an early 15-7 hole. Mount Royal would rally back, and went into the second quarter behind 19-15.

The second quarter was all UBC. The Thunderbirds dominated the play, outscoring the Cougars 23-14. UBC's strong play was making it look like they were going to run away with the game.

Kris Young and Harleen Sidhu were the sparks for the Thunderbird's offense in the first half, as they scored 12 and 10 points respectively. Alicia Tan and Jordan McLean were the two bright spots for the Cougars in the first half as they had 10 and 9 points respectively.

In the second half, Mount Royal sent a message to UBC that they were not going to be blown out. The Cougars battled hard in the 3rd quarter, and kept the game close by outscoring UBC 14-13. Still, Mount Royal was not able to make any sizable gains on the UBC lead.

In the 4th quarter, UBC began to pull away from the Cougars, taking at one point, a 19 point lead. Once again, Mount Royal battled back, and was able to chip away at UBC's lead. With roughly three minutes left in the quarter, Mount Royal was able to pull within 6 points, only behind 61-55. Despite the

Cougar's late strong play, their comeback fell short, and UBC was able to hold on for the win.

Mount Royal now holds a record of 1-13. UBC goes to 9-5.

The Thunderbirds will be home next weekend for two games against UNBC starting on Friday January 24th.

The Cougars are off to Victoria next Friday where they will open up a weekend series against the first place Victoria Vikes.
