Oakley had a fantastic rookie campaign, averaging 9.8 points per game, the second most on her team. Known primarily as a defensive player, Desiree exploded in the second half of the season, scoring 64 points in three games, including a 30-point performance against Fraser Valley. Oakley often drew the assignment of guarding the other team’s top players. She was named The Muscle Milk Athlete of the Month in February. Oakley was recruited from Citadel High School, along with Jayla Verney and Tyleigha Nelson. While playing high school ball for Citadel, her team went 100-0, capturing three straight provincial championships.
