Biography

2011-12

Kartev played 37 sets in the Cougars’ final year of ACAC competition, taking home a gold medal. The daunting 7’3 middle averaged 1.51 kills per set in 2011-12. Grigor comes from a volleyball family as his brother, Ivan plays up the street at the University of Calgary and his father Krisimir, played volleyball professionally.

2012-13

In the Cougars first season in the CIS, Kartev’s kills per set average slipped slightly but his total points per game went up to 1.94. He finished the season with 1.28 kills per set, 0.93 blocks per set and appeared in 81 sets.

2013-14

Kartev has led the Cougars in solo block and block assists every season he’s been in the CIS. His blocks jumped to 1.16 in 2013-14. He also had the highest points per set average of his career with 1.96.

2014-15

Kartev’s fourth season was perhaps his finest. He set career highs in nearly every major offensive and defensive category. He played 89 sets, averaged 1.37 kills per set, 2.2 points per set and put up 1.02 blocks per set. He was also named The Weaselhead Athlete of the Week in November.
