Mount Royal University Cougars Athletics & Recreation

Greg Barthel is currently in his third year of coaching with the Mount Royal University men’s volleyball team. Barthel is a level III NCCP certified coach that has a storied history with Canada West and the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference  (ACAC).

From 1998-2007, as the head coach at The Kings University, Barthel was awarded the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Coach of the Year and ACAC Coach of the Year in 2003-04 and honoured with an induction into the ACAC Hall of Fame in 2014 for his career.

Barthel continued on as the head coach of the University of Regina from 2007-18 and also worked with the Junior, Youth & Regional Excellence programs with Volleyball Canada during that time.

Most recently Barthel has worked as the Canada Games men’s volleyball head coach from 2020-22.
