Ryan Gyaki

Before becoming the Mount Royal Cougar's Men's Soccer Head Coach Ryan Gyaki was a professional soccer player. Gyaki, a second generation Austrian, began playing youth soccer in Calgary before moving to England to continue developing his skills. The midfielder was in England with Sheffield United F.C. for five years before moving to Germany to play with Hansa Rostock.

Internationally Gyaki represented Canada at the U20 and U23 level. In 2005 he captained the Canadian U20 national team and scored all four of their goals during qualifying for the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands. Later that year he was named the Canada Youth Player of the Year and was ranked as one of the top ten players to watch at the tournament.

After returning from Europe Gyaki began to focus on coaching and in 2014 the Calgary native joined Mount Royal University Men's Soccer as an assistant coach. In 2019, Gyaki guided the Cougars to the playoffs, finishing first in the Prairie Division and being nationally ranked for the first time since joining U SPORTS. In 2021, the Cougars repeated their performance in the Prairie Division and finished first overall in Canada West earning the opportunity to host the Canada West Men's Soccer Final Four where the Cougars placed third and were nationally ranked throughout the 2021 season.
