Born and raised in Margaree, Cape Breton Island Nova Scotia, Donald Godreau initially joined the oil and gas workforce after graduating from Cape Breton University's electrical engineering technologist program. After switching career paths, Godreau then joined the world of hockey in various scouting positions.
After graduating from the ISS Scouting Membership Program Godreau became the Director of Western Canadian Scouting for Neutral Zone LLC. Godreau later joined the Mount Royal Cougars men's hockey program 2015 while also filling the role as an Alberta scout for the Western Hockey League's Swift Current Broncos.
