The MRU Cougars men's basketball team is set to return to competition for the 2026-27 season as the program officially announced its schedule on June 26th.
Following a strong 2025-26 campaign that saw the Cougars post a 13-7 regular season record and earn a berth in the Canada West playoffs, Mount Royal will look to build on that success in the year ahead. The 2026-27 schedule features 20 regular season games, including key matchups against Calgary, Winnipeg and Alberta.
Season Opener
The Cougars will officially open the season on Friday, October 30 when they travel to Edmonton for a season-opening series against the MacEwan Griffins.
Mount Royal's home opener is scheduled for Friday, November 6 against the Calgary Dinos at Kenyon Court, with tip-off set for 8 p.m.
The matchup with Calgary will renew a competitive rivalry after the teams split last season's series, with each program earning a victory during the final weekend of the 2025-26 regular season.

Highlights of the schedule include:
Nov. 6, 2026 vs. Calgary - Home opener and the first matchup with the U of C for the season.
Jan. 15-16, 2027 vs. Winnipeg - A two-game set against the Wesmen, who finished atop the Prairie Division last season.
Dec. 4-5, 2026 vs. Regina - The final home series before the holiday break.
Feb. 5-6, 2027 vs. Alberta - The Cougars' final home series of the regular season.
Home Schedule
Fans will have plenty of opportunities to catch the Cougars in action at Kenyon Court this season, with 10 home games on the schedule.
Home court proved to be a major advantage for Mount Royal last season, as the Cougars compiled an impressive 8-2 record in front of their home fans. The team will look to carry that success into another challenging Canada West campaign.
