WHKY: Cougars announce 2026-27 women’s hockey schedule

The MRU Cougars women's hockey team is set to return to competition for the 2026-27 season as the program officially announced its schedule on June 25th.

After another strong campaign that saw the Cougars post a division-best 19-7-2 regular season record and earn a first-round bye in the Canada West playoffs, Mount Royal enters the new season with its sights set on another run near the top of the conference standings. The 2026-27 schedule features 28 regular season games, including key matchups against Calgary, Alberta, UBC and MacEwan.

Season Opener
The Cougars will officially open the season on Friday, October 9 when they travel to Edmonton to take on the MacEwan Griffins in the first game of a home-and-home series. Mount Royal's home opener is scheduled for the following night (October 10, 2026) at Flames Community Arenas as the two teams wrap up the opening weekend set. The matchup renews a familiar rivalry after the Cougars swept the season series against the Griffins during Week 3 of the 2025-26 campaign. The two programs will see plenty of each other this season, meeting six times throughout the regular season.

Key Matchups
Highlights of the schedule include:
Oct. 10, 2026 vs. MacEwan — Home opener and the second game of a six-game season series against the Griffins.
Oct. 24, 2026 vs. Calgary — The first home meeting of the season with the Calgary Dinos.
Nov. 6-7, 2026 at UBC — A matchup with the only Canada West team that finished ahead of the Cougars in the standings during the 2025-26 season.
Jan. 29, 2027 vs. Calgary — The Crowchild Classic at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Feb. 5-6, 2027 at Manitoba — The Cougars' first opportunity to face the Bisons since their Canada West semifinal matchup in 2026.
Feb. 20, 2027 vs. Alberta — The Cougars' final home game of the regular season.

Home Schedule
Fans will have plenty of opportunities to catch the Cougars in action on home ice this season, with 15 home games on the schedule.
Mount Royal enjoyed success at home during the 2025-26 campaign, posting an 8-5 record at Flames Community Arenas. The Cougars will look to build on that foundation as they navigate another demanding Canada West schedule.

All away games can be viewed live or on demand through Canada West TV.

With a talented returning core, new additions and another competitive conference schedule ahead, the Cougars will look to remain among the top contenders in Canada West during the 2026-27 season.
