The MRU Cougars men's hockey team is set to return to competition for the 2026-27 season as the program officially announced its schedule on June 25th.
Following one of the most successful seasons in program history, the Cougars enter 2026-27 looking to build on a campaign that saw them post a division-best 20-6-2 regular season record, host the Canada West Final and earn a second consecutive appearance at the U SPORTS National Championship. The upcoming schedule features 28 regular season games, including key matchups against Calgary, Saskatchewan, UBC and MacEwan.
Season Opener
The Cougars will officially open the season on Friday, October 9 when they host the MacEwan Griffins in the first game of a home-and-home series.
The matchup renews a familiar rivalry after the teams split their season series during Week 3 of the 2025-26 campaign, with each team earning a victory. Mount Royal and MacEwan will become well acquainted this season, squaring off six times throughout the regular season.
Key Matchups
Highlights of the schedule include:
Oct. 9, 2026 vs. MacEwan — Home opener and the first game of a six-game season series against the Griffins.
Oct. 23, 2026 vs. Calgary — The first home meeting of the season with the Calgary Dinos.
Nov. 6-7, 2026 vs. UBC — A matchup with the only Canada West team that finished ahead of the Cougars in the standings during the 2025-26 season.

Home Schedule
Fans will have plenty of opportunities to catch the Cougars in action on home ice this season, with 13 home games on the schedule.
Home ice proved to be a major advantage for Mount Royal last season, as the Cougars compiled an impressive 12-1-2 record in front of their home fans. The team will look to carry that success into another challenging Canada West campaign.
All away games can be viewed live or on demand through Canada West TV.
With a talented returning core, new additions and another competitive conference schedule ahead, the Cougars will look to remain among the top contenders in Canada West during the 2026-27 season.
