Feb. 27, 2026 - Canada West has unveiled its 2025-26 men's and women's hockey All-Star and All-Rookie team selections, recognizing the conference's top performers and standout newcomers from the regular season.
The announcement comes on the eve of four can't-miss best-of-three semifinal series set to begin tonight. On the women's side, cross-town rivals Trinity Western and UBC meet in the playoffs for the first time, while Mount Royal hosts Manitoba in the other semifinal.
The men's bracket features a highly anticipated playoff edition of the Crowchild Classic between bitter rivals Calgary and Mount Royal, while UBC hosts Saskatchewan in a rematch of last year's classic semifinal series.

WHKY | Record-setting UBC campaign reflected in All-Star honours
UBC, Calgary, Mount Royal and Manitoba were all represented on the Canada West women's hockey first All-Star team, highlighted by a trio of selections from a UBC Thunderbirds team that set a Canada West record with 26 regular season wins.

Reigning Canada West Player of the Year Grace Elliott delivered another dominant campaign for the 'Birds, leading the conference with 37 points, including a nation-leading 24 goals. Elliott also paced the CW circuit with 16 power-play points, including 10 goals with the man advantage. Teammate Annalise Wong finished second in conference scoring with 32 points, recording five goals and a nation-leading 27 assists to drive the conference's most prolific offence.

UBC defenceman Jaylyn Morris was also a big part of that offensive prowess, capping a strong third season by leading all conference defenders in scoring with 22 points, ranking fourth overall among all skaters.
Calgary goaltender Amelia Awad earned first team honours following a standout season in the Dinos crease, leading Calgary to the playoffs with an impressive 12-3-1 record. Manitoba forward Aimee Patrick also earned a first team nod after finishing third in conference scoring with 25 points and leading the Bisons back to the postseason. Mount Royal defenceman
Summer Fomradas rounded out the first team after a consistent season on the Cougars' blue line, suiting up for all 28 games and adding 15 points for the East Division champions.

The second team featured six student-athletes from six different programs, with Calgary forward Brooklyn Anderson, Manitoba defenceman Louise Fergusson, Mount Royal forward
Allee Gerrard, Trinity Western defenceman Presleigh Giesbrecht, UBC goaltender Elise Hugens, and Alberta forward Abby Soyko all earning All-Star recognition.

The All-Rookie team was led by a pair of blue liners that stepped in and immediately showcased their scoring prowess. Trinity Western's Sadie Isfeld and Mount Royal's
Isa MacPhee each led rookie scoring with 13 points apiece from the back end. Forwards Peppi Virtanen of Saskatchewan and Manitoba's Sara Harbus followed with 11 points apiece, while MRU's
Keyana Bert rounded out the first team after a solid eight-point campaign.

Regina goaltender Amy Swayze earned All-Rookie team honours after appearing in 17 games, recording six wins with an impressive 2.14 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage.
MHKY | UBC trio leads First Team All-Star selections
The UBC Thunderbirds led the way in the men's hockey All-Star selections following a historic season that saw the team set a new single-season program record with 23 wins. The T-Birds placed three student-athletes on the first All-Star team, highlighted by forward Sasha Mutala, defenceman Jake Lee, and goaltender Brett Mirwald.

Mutala capped a dominant campaign by leading Canada West in scoring with 46 points, tallying 14 goals and 32 assists. Calgary captain Adam Kydd finished close behind in the scoring race with 41 points, including a conference-leading 33 assists, while Mount Royal's
Connor Bouchard ranked third overall with 39 points on 11 goals and 28 helpers, adding two game-winning goals.

On the blue line, Lee paced all Canada West defencemen with 34 points, including 14 goals - eight more tucks than the next-highest scoring defender. He added 15 power-play points and finished the season with a conference-best plus-37 rating. Saskatchewan's Landon Kosior also earned first team honours after producing 29 points on four goals and 25 assists.

In goal, Mirwald earned a first team nod after an outstanding season in the Thunderbirds' crease, posting a dazzling 11-1-1-1 record to go along with a 2.27 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.
Six players from five teams earned second team nods. Alberta defenceman Dawson Davidson was the lone Golden Bear All-Star representative, finishing the season with 26 points from the back end. He was joined on the second team by Mount Royal blueliner
Clay Hanus, who earned an All-Star nod after re-joining the Cougars lineup mid-season. The reigning Canada West Player of the Year led all conference defencemen in points per game (1.28), netting 23 points in 18 contests.
Saskatchewan forwards Dawson Holt and Chantz Petruic both landed on the second team following strong offensive seasons, while Calgary goaltender Carl Stankowski earned recognition after picking up 10 wins with a 2.30 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. UBC forward Ty Thorpe rounded out the second team selections after finishing fourth in conference scoring.
The future of the conference looks bright, based on six stellar freshman selections on the All-Rookie team. Saskatchewan forward Conner Roulette led all rookies in scoring with 35 points, including 15 goals. Calgary rookie Hayden Pakkala was close behind, recording 26 points in his debut season, equaling the output of UBC defenceman Jace Weir, who also joined the All-Rookie team after finishing as the conference's top-scoring rookie blueliner. UBC forward Reilley Kotai impressed in his first Canada West season, averaging a point per game with 12 goals and 12 assists in 24 appearances. MacEwan's Keaton Dowhaniuk rounded out the freshman squad, putting up an impressive 18 points from the back end.
