It was sunny and 23 degrees to start the game on Field #2 of Mount Royal University this afternoon with a hint of smoke.
The Mount Royal Cougars are looking for a bounce back win, against the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves, after being held scoreless in three straight matches.
During the 14
th minute the Timberwolves are set up with a corner kick, after a tip, James Jordan is able to get the final touch on the ball and bury it by Sjard Struass to go up 1-0.
While the pressure from the Timberwolves is starting to brew, Mark Talisuna is set up just outside the box and strikes the ball past
Sjard Strauss to net his first of the season and get his team up 2-0.
In the 32
nd minute, Joe Green sends the ball up the right hand side of the pitch to
Skyler Rogers, who spins to get away from the defender, he's one on one with the keeper, and sends the ball in the low left hand side of the net.
Rogers gets the Cougars in the game.
In the 38
th minute, the Timberwolves have possession of the ball,Pipeijn van der Ende is playing the ball in the left of the box with Cougars defenders surrounding him, he battles through and shoots the ball through a cougars players legs and gets it by Strauss.
The Timberwolves are up 3-1 just before half time.
In the 42
nd minute Rogers gets the ball at the halfway line, feeds it to
Chanan Chanda, who sends the ball across the box to a sprinting
Jonathan Walter and he buries the shot to get his team within 1 at half time.
During the 85
th minute, UNBC fouls Chanda in the box.
Chanda gets set up for a game tying penalty kick and buries it by Issac Pierce at the bottom left of the net to have this game all tied up at 3 a piece.
During added time, there is a collision on the field between
Kwasi Oteng-Frimpong and UNBC goalkeeper Pierce.
Pierce sustains an injury. Time is suspended for 30 minutes.
After the time is resumed the Cougars and Timberwolves battle it out for 3 more minutes, and the game ends in a 3-3 tie.
Post game, Rogers shared about the bounce back win saying, "we know UNBC is a good team, we were upset about yesterday but I think today showed the resilience that we have…going down 2 goals and bringing it back with the 2."
The MRU Men's Soccer Team head up to Edmonton next weekend to take on MacEwen and University of Alberta.
