It was a sunny and 26 degrees out on Field 2 as the Cougars got set to play the undefeated University of British Columbia Thunderbirds.
During the 5
th minute of the game, after a misunderstanding of a call, goal keeper
Sjard Strauss was preparing for his kick off.
Strauss placed the ball down, thinking off-side was called.
Thunderbirds player Luke Norman was able to step up and weave the ball around Strauss for a tap in right in front of the net for the Thunderbirds to be up 1-0 early in the match.
During the 12
th minute of play the coaching staff of MRU was given a yellow card for dissent.
Throughout the first half the Cougars are keeping up the momentum and trying to generate opportunities.
During the 24
th minute
Skyler Rogers has to best chance this far into the game, by shooting low, UBC goal keeper Jack Garner is forced to make an initial diving stop, with the ball trickling behind, but ended up going wide of the net.
In the 35
th minute
Jonathan Walter has a chance after getting by a Thunderbird defender, and letting go a hard shot, that veers wide.
MRU is keeping up the chances to try to get the game tied, including applying the pressure and having some scrambling chances.
In the 44
th minute
Alex Kemsley showcases his defensive abilities by blocking a scoring chance to the right of the net to help out Strauss.
During the 50th minute Luka Patick is given a yellowcard, while MRU coach
Ashley Gooch is given a yellow card, making that the third yellow card the team has.
In the 56
th minute after a corner throw in the Thunderbirds kick the ball up to Henri Godbout while beating two Cougar defensemen he's able to get the ball by Strauss to go up 2-0.
The Cougars applied the pressure while maintaining a strong defence throughout added time, to hopefully get a goal since they have been held scoreless through 3 games now.

Alex Kemsley knew it was going to be a battle on the pitch today, "We worked hard looking into their shape and how they look to play. I feel like we minimized them in that respect, but they're a good team."
Kemsley and the Cougars look to regroup for tomorrows match against the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves.
