The Mount Royal University Women's volleyball team is hosting the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday night at Kenyon Court.
Throughout the first set the points are evenly matched, until the Huskies start to take more of a lead on the Cougars at 17-16, the Huskies keep putting up the points and are leading the first set 23-16.
After a timeout by the Cougars, a wild rally is put up resulting in the Huskies getting another point.
The Cougars are gaining traction and momentum after a few key blocks from Kennedy Willscroft. For the Huskies Keely Anderson gets out of set one with 5 kills, and the team having a total of 16.
The Huskies take set one, 25-19. Huskies had control most of the set with only one lead change between the Cougars and Huskies.
In the second set, the points are within one, a rally with some stellar performances to keep the ball in play ends in the Cougars getting the kill from
Mya Morgan. The Cougars call a time out when trailing by four, trying to get something going.
The Huskies, keep the lead throughout the second set, and end up taking the set 25-16. Tielle Hagel of the Huskies has 21 assists through two sets, and Taryn Hannah has 8 kills for Saskatchewan through the two sets.
Sydney Scatcherd gets her 4
th kill of the night in the third set to get a point and have the Cougars be trailing 15-8. Hannah comes up for the Huskies with an ace to get the Huskies their 20
th point of the set.
After a timeout is called by Mount Royals as they trail by 8, The Cougars and Huskies put on a rally which ends in the Cougars getting the kill thanks to Morgan laying down the spike. While trying to gain momentum, the Cougars get up within 6 points, but the Huskies are able to take set three 25-18. Getting the win for the night at Kenyon Court.
The Huskies outside hitter, Hannah came out of the game with 9 kills. While player of the game Anderson had 13, to help the Huskies get out of the game with the win.
Cougars Player of The Game, Scatcherd had to say about the loss, "Honestly, I think we were just looking to get the nerves out. I think the first set was just, we were full of nerves. We were doing things we usually weren't doing." Looking ahead to tomorrows match she adds "that game is now out of the way and tomorrow our nerves will be less and we'll be able to just play our game." As the
Cougars look at a Saturday night rematch vs the Huskies.
