New era of Cougars soccer begins with Stadium Field upgrades

MRU Athletics & Recreation is set to welcome fans to a new era of Cougar soccer with upgrades to Stadium Field. The upgraded facility includes a professional artificial turf field, new team benches and new scoreboard and videoboard.

These upgrades represent a significant investment in Cougars Athletics and Recreation, creating a venue that supports year-round varsity competition and training as well as increased community engagement opportunities. In addition to hosting MRU varsity soccer, the facility provides opportunities for camps, tournaments, and other recreational community events which strengthen MRU's connection with Calgary through sport.

"Cougars Athletics and Recreation is proud to announce the opening of our new turf field, including the scoreboard and videoboard," says Karla Karch, Director of Athletics and Recreation. "This significant facility upgrade was made possible through the dedicated support of Mount Royal University's senior leadership and the Parks Foundation. Beyond serving as the premier home for our Cougars soccer programs, this modern venue strengthens our commitment to campus life and expands our capacity to connect with the broader Calgary community through sport and recreation."

Completion of this project reflects MRU's ongoing commitment to enhancing campus facilities and creating exceptional experiences for student-athletes, fans, and the broader community.

As part of this new chapter, MRU Cougars soccer matches will now be ticketed events. Ticket revenue will support the continued growth of Cougars Athletics and Recreation and the game-day experience at Stadium Field. Fans will also be able to enjoy concessions at games, including food and alcohol sales.

MRU students and employees receive free tickets to all regular-season soccer games. All fans, including those receiving free admission, can obtain their tickets in advance at mrucougars.com/tickets

The new facility will be officially unveiled prior to the first game of the Cougars soccer season on Friday, September 11. The festivities start at 6:45 p.m., prior to the men's soccer game, with a pre-game ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring both the men's and women's varsity soccer teams, followed by a celebration recognizing the men's soccer 2025 Canada West Championship. The festivities will include food and beverage specials, and the first 200 fans will receive a commemorative championship pennant. All community members are welcome to join the celebrations and be a part of this historic event at Mount Royal!
