WSOC: Cougars get Shutout win in Crowchild match up

Cougars take the 1-0 win to close out regular season against the Dinos

It was a sunny but very windy 10 degrees as the Cougars and Dinos kicked off their last regular season game on Sunday afternoon.

The Cougars set off their senior day with celebrating the graduating players, Caitlyn Vieira, Kyla Franks and the captain Isabella Chirico.

The Cougars and Dinos are putting on a defensive display to start this game off.

In the 22nd minute Zyna Centeno has a chance to send the ball on net from up the field, she shots but the shot goes wide.

As the first half of the game had no score, the defence was in full force on both sides of the field.

At halftime the score is 0-0.

The Dinos are keeping the pressure on the Cougars into the second half, as Grace Moore is creating chances while in the keepers box and trying to sneak a shot out through Cougars defenders, yet

Ella Filek is ready and gets the block up.

Calgary is playing the ball nicely close to the net, Jaden Tomaszewski ends up with the ball at the top left corner of the box and sends a shot on net, Filek makes the jumping save.

In the 57th minute Madeleine Albert is racing the Dinos defenders down the field and sends out a shot, yet it goes high.

In the 58th minute, Tamara Djurisic sends the ball up the field to a speedy Dany Juarez, she's racing the Dinos defenders down the left-hand side of the field, Lauren Houghton comes out to challenge,

Juarez pokes the ball by Houghton and sends the ball to the back of the net.

In the 65th and 91st minute Dinos players, Isabella DiPalma is given a yellow card for stopping a promising attack, and to Erica Mysko receiving the second Dinos card of the match.

The Cougars win the defensive battle with a shutout performance by Filek. In the final minutes Filek made game saving stops to keep the shutout. 

Both the Cougars and Dinos now have their sights set on playoffs in the coming weeks.

Number 21, did something for the Cougars, Juarez the lone goal scored had this to say looking ahead to playoffs for the Cougars, "we're trying to go into playoffs with a really confident mindset, going in really hard."
