Cougars beat Timberwolves 4-0

The Mount Royal University Cougars faced the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves in toasty 32-degree weather with no wind today.

 

The Cougars started off aggressively taking control of the ball in minute 3.

 

As the game progressed, the Cougars kept up their momentum and showed persistence. 

There was a stoppage at 25 minutes in to assess whether Timberwolves goalie Brityn Hinsche had an injury after a collision. 

Both teams showed how dominant they can be on the field and continued to apply pressure both offensively and defensively.  

At 29 minutes in, Timberwolves goalie Hinsche stepped out to deal with her injury and play continued. Timberwolves goalie Lauren Gubbels steps in to take over for Hinsche. While the heat took its toll and both the Cougars and Timberwolves started to slow down in this heat. 

There was a corner kick at 36 minutes in, but to no avail. The Cougars kept up their pace and executed various strong plays. There was a very close shot on net by Timberwolves forward Kate Rattee at the 40 minute mark, but she was unsuccessful. 

At the end of the first half, the score was tied 0-0. 

Moving into the second half, with lots of momentum, the Cougars forward Catriona McFadden shoots and scores bringing up the scoreboard to 1-0 for the Cougars at the 51 minute mark. McFadden hasn't played for a year and a half and came back with strength and athleticism. A remarkable goal in addition to her assist. 

Cougars forward Dany Juarez got a very close shot that just veered left of the net at 55 minutes in. 


In the 60th minute of play, forward Julia Makoloski scored a beautiful goal with midfielder Tamara Djurisic on the assist. The score is now 2-0 for the Cougars. 

With less than 10 minutes left in the game, pressure from both teams was applied and they didn't let up. 

Another injury for the Timberwolves as midfielder Fia Cameron was helped off the field. 

With just a couple of minutes of added stoppage time the Cougars gave it their last burst of energy and Cougars midfielder Tamara Djurisic made a shot on goal. 

The Cougars midfielder Avery Dalton scored in added time with what is now a 3-0 for the Cougars. 

Very soon after, Tamara Djurisic scores less than a minute later and brings the score up to a dominant 4-0 win for the Cougars. 

Next up, the Mount Royal University Cougars take on the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Sunday, Sept. 8 at 1 PM at Mount Royal Stadium Field.
