In the 49th minute, Cougars midfielder Skylar Rogers was fed an excellent ball from Nikolas Myronik for a partial break from the Pronghorns' defence. Rogers made a superb play, but hit the crossbar.
Just over ten minutes after the Cougars' near miss, they found the back of the net. MRU was awarded a penalty after a handball from Lethbridge. David Schaefer's shot from the spot was stopped, but he was able to collect his own rebound and fire it past a diving Armaan Thawer.

MSOC: MRU (1) at SSK (0)
The Cougars picked up their second of two wins on Sunday, September 3 in Saskatoon versus the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. The game had to be called in the 76th minute due to rapidly deteriorating air quality.
In the first half, the Cougars and Huskies were held to a 0-0 score despite exchanging a pair of high-quality scoring chances. MRU keeper, Aidan Dumoulin was forced to make a strenuous, diving save off a shot from Saskatchewan winger, Ethan Cabral. On the other end of the field, Cougars' forward David Schaefer rifled a long-range freekick off the crossbar, just a minute after Dumoulin's clutch save.
In the 59th minute, Mount Royal was able to capitalize on a chance in the box. The ball fell to the foot of Dawid Dudek and the MRU midfielder shot it past the Huskie goalkeeper, Jaron Slopinski, to make it 1-0.
Dudek's strike would prove to be the decider after the officials were forced to end the game early due to heavy smoke.
The Cougars' two wins from the weekend keep them undefeated. Through three games, Mount Royal has not allowed a single goal. They'll look to keep their clean sheet streak going in their home opener on Saturday, September 9 at 1:00 p.m. when they host the MacEwan Griffins.
