CALGARY - The University of Calgary Dinos won the night against the Mount Royal University Cougars on Kenyon Court.
The Dinos took an early lead, winning every quarter with scores of 19-15, 26-17, 25-22, and 17-12. The final score was 87-66.
The Cougars marked the evening with their Seniors Night, awarding each of their graduating players with their framed jerseys.
Mount Royal's Matthew Guinto opened the scoring with a jumper, soon followed by Calgary's Ezeoha Santiago with a three-pointer. The two teams struggled to find some momentum, but the Cougars took a slight lead following a series of jumpers. By the two minute mark, the Dinos matched their points at 13 with a jumper from Edwin Jeudy then pulled ahead. They capitalized on some slight Cougars mishaps and were able to finish with a four point lead.
The Dinos furthered their lead with the first few points of the second from Jackson Bayles and Brett Layton. Calgary made several more attempts, but were thwarted by the defenders. They were able to widen the gap a bit with some free throws and a jumper from Layton. In the final minutes of the first half, they capitalized on some Mount Royal fouls to head into a 13 point lead.
The third quarter was slowed by both teams committing fouls. Guinto quite a few trips to the line to chip away at their lead with Lincoln Anderson following up with a three pointer. The momentum slowed to a crawl with several more free throws for Calgary as they capitalized on it to bring their lead to a 16 point gap.
Moreau Amadou broke Calgary streak seconds into the fourth with a layup, followed by one from Nate Petrone. Both teams were making several attempts on basket, but defenses were high on both sides. Bayles broke through the stalemate with a three pointer followed up by a layup from Ali Raza. Mount Royal's Dylan Lutes made a final three pointer with the game ending on a Mount Royal free throw.
This marked the final match of the season for the Cougars, ending with a record of 3-17.
