CALGARY - The University of Alberta Pandas faced off with their provincial rivals, the Mount Royal University Cougars at Flames Community Arenas on Saturday evening. 

After a tough loss the previous night, the Cougars were looking to recover their streak with a fresh game. 

Both teams were showing some strong defences as they were reluctant to let anything slide. However, eight minutes into the first, Alberta's Madison Willan found herself in a group out front of the Cougars net. She rebounded a pass from Kennedy Ganser into the net, opening the scoring for the night. Mount Royal doubled down on their defenses and made a few attempts of their own on the net. With just three minutes remaining, the Pandas' Isabelle Lajoie earned her first goal of the season on a rebound from Alex Gowie. 

The Cougars found their stride in the second, putting up some tough defences for the Bisons to tackle. Halfway through the period, Gowie was setting up behind the Cougars net. A swift pass to Payton Laumbach out front led to a straight shot into the back of the net. They made another attempt before the end of the period, but the Cougars were blocking all efforts. 

The Bisons maneuvered onto a defensive stance for the final period to protect their clean lead. The Cougars made a valiant effort to push past the barrier, but they were unable to make a goal happen. 

The final score was 3-0 for Alberta. 

They will play next against the University of Regina Cougars on Friday, January 17th. It will be broadcasted live on CanadaWest.tv, presented by Co-op.
