CALGARY - The second match of the weekend between the Mount Royal Cougars and the UBCO Heat was hosted on Kenyon Court. Mount Royal seemed confident and calm following their win the previous night while the Heat were eager to take their first win of the season.Â
UBCO started off the match with fervour, taking the first point with a quick kill. The Heat's third year Max Heppell led with three points for the set. Mount Royal's Trent Mounter led his team with four points.Â
UBCO rallied for the second set to take back the match. The Heat's Teo Ardanaz held a solid hit percentage of 0.500 while Mount Royal's Matt Saly was hitting a healthy 0.833 percent. As halftime approached, the Heat pushed hard to take the set, but were unable to pull ahead.Â
In the third set, Mount Royal was ahead by a comfortable seven points by the technical timeout. UBCO brought some ferocious energy to the top of the net, putting the Cougars off balance. However, the Cougars held onto their lead and swept the game 3-0.Â
The sets came out as 25-21, 25-17, and 25-19.Â
The Heat's Heppell retained his point lead, ending with five, closely followed by teammate Cam Vanderveen at four. Mount Royal had three heavy hitters: Chris Byam, Mounter and Saly ended with 10 points each. Saly had the best hit percentage of his team at 0.636 with second year Jace Martin following at 0.556.Â
This victory brings Mount Royal to a standing of 4-4 while UBCO continues to fight hard for a win, now holding a standing of 0-5.Â
Mount Royal will play next at Brandon University against the Bobcats on Friday, November 15th. It will be broadcasted live on CanadaWest.tv, presented by Co-op.Â
