CALGARY - The Mount Royal University Cougars faced off once more against the University of Regina Cougars at the Flames Community Arena. Mount Royal took away another victory for the weekend with a 6-1 final score.
Regina was looking for a win of their own, but Mount Royal was determined to defy them. The first period started off with Regina pulling defensive moves as Mount Royal controlled the ice. Just a minute and a half into the 1st, Kate Scidmore sank the punk into Regina's net, bringing them into an early lead.
Regina fought back hard, dominating the game for a good chunk of the period. However, they were thwarted by a penalty, giving away the advantage. Mount Royal maintained their 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Second period opened with Regina once more on the defensive as Mount Royal applied some real pressure. Mount Royal's Anna Purschke scored her first goal of the day just one minute into the period.
Regina was pushing back hard, but found themselves with several penalties. Mount Royal took advantage of these power plays to score their third goal of the night, Anna Purschke slipping past Regina's goalie, Morgan Baker.
Following the goals, Regina managed to take control of the ice for some attempts on net. As the second period waned, they were unable to deter Scidmore from sneaking another shot into the net, bringing the Cougars lead to 4-0.
Just before the buzzer, Cougars' Tianna Ko was quickly passed the puck from Breanne Trotter, rebounding it into the net. The Cougars entered the second intermission with a lead to 5-0.
Third period opened with Regina pushing to close the gap. Mount Royal was giving them a few advantages with some penalties being handed out, but were able to maintain their defences.
Halfway through the period, Regina's Jaycee Magwood was passed to by Merissa Zerr and fired it into the Cougars net to score their first goal of the game. They held a strong offensive to follow-up the goal, but couldn't quite get past the responding Mount Royal defences.
As the game faded, Mount Royal's Scidmore snuck one last goal into the Regina net to end the game with a 6-1 victory.
