HEADLINES:

The Cougars and Griffins clash for the first time this season on Kenyon Court in Calgary. This all-Alberta matchup is key to both squads in their fights for positioning in the Canada West playoff race. Mount Royal could jump all the way to 5-1, while MacEwan has a chance to get back to .500.

THE SERIES:

Mount Royal is 5-3 against MacEwan, since the Griffins joined Canada West three seasons ago.

MOUNT ROYAL COUGARS (3-1)

The Cougars have lost only once this season, getting off to their best start since joining the conference in 2012-13. The Cougars' lone loss came at the hands of Lethbridge on Nov. 12. Josh Ross has been a beast for Mount Royal this season. The fourth-year transfer has put up 74 points in his first four games as a Cougar and is only just finding his stride. Ross had 25 and 28 points in the Cougars' two victories last weekend in Kelowna.

MACEWAN GRIFFINS (2-4)

Lethbridge swept MacEwan to open the season but since then, the Griffins earned splits with both Regina and Victoria. Thadius Galvez leads the MacEwan attack once again this season. The fourth-year guard is averaging 19.5 points per game this season, good for fifth in the conference. The American guard is also the team's leading rebounder. He is averaging 6.7 rebounds per game this season.
