Calgary, AB – The Mount Royal Cougars won their third straight match 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-18) over the Regina Cougars on Alumni Night on Kenyon Court. Andrew McWilliam led all scorers in the match with 16.5 points. Joshua Nickel led Regina with 7 points.

Mount Royal got off to a rocky start, as their initial passes were a little off. Regina held a 10-6 lead before MRU woke up. The Cougars came all the way back to tie the game at 13, and then put their foot on the gas, feeding Andrew McWilliam over and over again. Over the next 15 points MRU went on a 12-3 run.  

It was Regina who jumped out to a second set lead on Mount Royal. Mount Royal then fell back on their two aces, Jordan Parkin and Tyler Schmidt. Schmidt put down a monster left-handed kill sending Parkin to the service line. Parkin then delivered a bomb of a serve to put Mount Royal up 11-10. The Cougars fed off that momentum, propelling them to a 25-20 set victory.  

Regina had another strong start to the set going up 3-0. The Cougars kept the deficit manageable until 12-12. The Cougars then went on a 5-2 run to get back on top. Mount Royal's power just kept separating them from Regina until they ultimately clinched the match after Regina hit into the net.

Andrew McWilliam led the Cougars in every major category including points (16.5), kills (13) and digs (10) to earn player of the game honours.

Mount Royal improves their first place conference record to 3-0.

Regina drops to 1-2 in Canada West regular season play.

These two sides will square off again tomorrow afternoon on Kenyon Court. First serve is set for 5:00pm.
