After four standout seasons in a Cougars jersey, Josh Tarzwell is headed to the professional ranks.

The former Mount Royal men's hockey forward has signed his first professional contract with the Glasgow Clan of the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) for the 2026-27 season.

Tarzwell leaves MRU as one of the most accomplished offensive players in program history. The Red Deer, Alberta product appeared in 85 career regular season games for the Cougars, recording 79 points on 39 goals and 40 assists while helping establish Mount Royal as one of the premier programs in U SPORTS men's hockey. His 39 career goals rank among the top five in school history.

A consistent offensive threat throughout his career, Tarzwell combined a physical style of play with a knack for producing in key moments. The 6-foot-1 forward developed into one of Canada West's premier power forwards, using his size, skating ability and net-front presence to impact games at both ends of the ice. Tarzwell capped off his U SPORTS career by earning the team's Most Valuable Player award for the 2025-26 season, tying for the team lead in goals (15), leading the team in game winning goals (4) and serving as a key piece of one of the most successful teams in program history.

During his time at Mount Royal, Tarzwell helped the Cougars capture multiple Canada West East Division titles and make back-to-back appearances at the U SPORTS University Cup, cementing his place among one of the most successful graduating classes in program history.

The Glasgow Clan, based in Glasgow, Scotland, compete in the Elite Ice Hockey League which is considered one of the the highest levels of professional hockey in the United Kingdom. Director of Hockey Operations for the Glasgow Clan, Zach Vinnell believes Tarzwell has all the attributes required to make a successful transition into the professional game.

He said the following in a statement released by the team:
