WHKY: Former captain Tatum Amy returns to MRU women’s hockey program as assistant coach

CALGARY, AB- The Mount Royal University women’s hockey program is bringing back one of its former leaders, as former team captain Tatum Amy has joined the coaching staff as the team’s lead assistant coach.

A respected presence throughout her playing career with the Cougars, Amy established herself as a leader both on and off the ice and played an important role in establishing MRU as one of the best programs in the conference. She most notably captained the Cougars to the 2023 national championship.

Now returning behind the bench, Amy brings valuable experience, a strong understanding of the program’s identity, and a unique perspective as a former student-athlete who competed within the Canada West conference.

Amy also has one of the most decorated playing resumes in program history. Upon graduating from Mount Royal, she ranked as the Cougars’ all-time leader in assists, while also holding the program record for assists and points in a single season. In addition, Amy finished her career ranked top five in all-time games played and second in career points.

Amy’s impact extended far beyond her accomplishments on the ice. A three-time Academic All-Canadian, she consistently excelled in the classroom while balancing the demands of competing at the U SPORTS level. In her final season with the Cougars, she also served as President of the Cougars Athlete Board (CAB), further demonstrating her leadership and commitment to the student-athlete experience. Among her many accolades, Amy was named the Canada West Female Athlete of the Year in 2022-23. She also made a meaningful impact within the Calgary community through her involvement with the Hockey Superheroes program.

Amy joins the coaching staff ahead of the upcoming season as the Cougars look to build off their division winning season with the hopes of earning another opportunity to compete on the national stage.
