Players Bench Female Athlete of the Week: Bronwynn Davies-Neira

The Mount Royal Cougars women's volleyball team put together an impressive all-around weekend, sweeping the UBCO Heat at home, with outside hitter Bronwynn Davies-Neira playing a pivotal role in both victories.

In Friday night's match, Davies-Neira contributed across the stat sheet, recording seven kills while adding three blocks and three service aces, both season highs. She elevated her stellar performance even further on Saturday, leading the Cougars with 15 kills and adding 13 digs in the win, showcasing her impact on both sides of the ball.

Davies-Neira is a fourth-year physical education student from Newcastle, Ontario.

Players Bench Male Athlete of the Week: Shane Farkas

The Cougars men's hockey team captured two massive wins over the weekend against their crosstown rivals, the University of Calgary Dinos, including a 2-1 win in the 12th annual Crowchild Classic at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Starring for the Cougars was veteran goaltender Shane Farkas. The Penticton, B.C. product started in both games and was a massive reason why Mount Royal swept the Dinos. Farkas made 23 saves in his fourth career Crowchild Classic on Thursday, including arguably the save of the year late in the third period to keep MRU ahead. In Saturday's rematch at Flames Community Arena, the netminder made 18 saves in regulation and overtime and then stopped all seven Calgary skaters in the shootout to secure a 4-3 win.

Farkas also became the Cougars' all-time leader in games and minutes played by a goalie (in the U SPORTS era) on Thursday. After missing the first half of the season due to injury, the fourth-year has gone 6-1-0 for the Cougars, posting a 2.69 goals against average.
