It was sunny and 24 degrees at MRU Field 2 as the MRU Cougars women's soccer team set up for their home opener against the University of Alberta Pandas.
After a Cougars rush in the 10th minute a through ball came off a Pandas defender directly to
Julia Makoloski and she buries the ball high in the right corner of the net to take the lead of the game 1-0.
After opening the scoring, the cougars were putting the pressure on the Pandas.
After this first goal MRU was putting the pressure on the Pandas.
Brooklyn St Amand had a dangerous chance for the Panadas after receiving a through the legs pass, but then shooting wide of the net in the 20th minute.
While still applying the pressure the Cougars had scoring chances from Caitlyn Viera, and
Tamara Djurisic during the 24th and 29th minutes.
In the 38th minute Makenna Van der Veen scored her first of the season, off a quick rush and take away to tie the game up 1-1.
Gabrielle Linford put a shot in the left lower corner of the net in the 65th minute the ball rebounded to Linford, while trying to capitalize on the rebound but Wynn was there to take it away.
At 85 minutes a yellow card was handed to Brooklyn Schott of after a ball up in the air resulted in the pushing of a Cougars player.
In the 90th minute of the game a yellow card was assessed to the assistant coach of the Cougars Colin MacKay.
With a defensive second half of the match, the game ended in a draw.

Isabella Chirico said post game about having the home opener end in a draw, "bittersweet, for sure… you know, on the positive side, we are undefeated still, which is still good. We haven't kind of dropped too low, but we wanted to win this game coming into this game." While also looking forward to tomorrows match she adds, "I think we just kind of regroup today and go again tomorrow and just bring all this kind of energy and fire and beat McEwen."
The Women's soccer team tries to keep it going this weekend with Sunday's match at Field 2 vs the Griffins.
