The MRU Cougars soccer teams were all on the road this past weekend, with the men headed west to match up against the Trinity Western Spartans and then taking on the University of Fraser Valley Cascades. The women headed into a double header for the weekend in Winnipeg against the University of Manitoba Bisons.
Players Bench Male Athlete of the Week: Joesph Green
The Cougars were in action in British Columbia hoping to keep their undefeated streak going.
At TWU on Friday night, in a defensive battle the Cougars held their own.
During added time, Green tried to be the game changer. After getting through the Spartans defence he was able to get a shot out that the goalkeeper stopped.
Green kept the defensive force going during Saturdays match vs the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades. While trying to generate chances and keeping the game as close as it can be.
The first year, University Entrance Option students defense was this weekend. Green showcased his defence while playing full minutes in both the Cougars matches.
Players Bench Female Athlete of the Week: Ella Filek
The women's soccer team faced off against the Bisons this past weekend, while looking to keep their undefeated streak alive.
Ella Filek's goal keeping lead to the Cougars victory on Saturday afternoon, coming out of the game with 7 total saves to keep the score 2-1 for the Cougars.
During Sundays match the Cougars got on the board first and defence was pressured to keep it that way.
The Bisons were creating chances, but Filek was there at every chance. Having a total of 6 saves for the match.
Filek, currently in her second year of Health & Physical Education, captured her second shut-out of the season. While being a vital part of the Cougars so far undefeated season. Â
