CALGARY, ALTA. - The Mount Royal Cougars hockey teams will drop the puck for the 2025-26 season in early October as both teams take on the University of Saskatchewan. The women will start off at home, while then men will be on the road.
The Cougars men's hockey team went on to have the best season of Head Coach
Bert Gillings career here at MRU. The men's hockey team punched their ticket to the 2024-25 U SPORTS Championship for the first time. Their season ended after a five overtime loss to Toronto Metropolitan University. This season the eager to return for redemption. They take on the Huskies, who they fell to in the Canada West final and look for vengeance. Their season opener will take place October 3rd at 6 PM MT, and will return home for their home opener on October 11.
The women's hockey team faced a familiar foe in the Canada West semifinal as they continued to see the University of Alberta. After falling to them the Cougars lost some big names in
Aliya Jomha,
Alex Spence, and
Kaitlyn Ross but the young squad is eager to pick up where they left off.
Scott Rivett has accomplished a lot in his tenure with Mount Royal and hopes to add to his resume. The squad will start the season at home against the University of Saskatchewan on October 3rd at 7 PM MT.
The women's senior night will take place on January 31 for a Crowchild Classic matchup against the University of Calgary, while the men have theirs on February 14 against new rivals the University of Saskatchewan.
