Emma Boyd signs first pro contract with French club Chamalières

Veteran middle blocker heads to Ligue A Féminine after four strong seasons at MRU

Chamalières, F – Emma Boyd is heading to Europe. The standout middle blocker from Mount Royal University has signed her first professional contract with Volley-Ball Club de Chamalières, a team competing in France's Ligue A Féminine — one of the strongest women's volleyball leagues in Europe.

Boyd leaves MRU as one of the most accomplished players in program history. Over four seasons with the Cougars (2021–2025), she played 282 sets and racked up 736.5 points on 518 kills, while hitting .292. She also recorded 197 blocks and 105 service aces, showcasing her versatility and dominance at the net.

In her final season, Boyd served as team captain and delivered one of her best individual campaigns. She posted 151 kills, 56 total blocks, and was named to the Canada West Second All-Star Team — the first conference honour of her career.

"Emma's growth over the past four years has been incredible," said Cougars Head Coach Rhonda Schmuland. "She's been a huge part of our success, not just with her performance, but with her leadership. She helped set a standard that elevated our entire team."

Boyd played a key role in the Cougars' historic 2022–23 season, helping the team capture silver medals at both the Canada West and U SPORTS championships. Her impact extended beyond the stat sheet, as her commitment and presence helped shape the team's identity and culture.

Since 2024, Boyd has also been part of Volleyball Canada's Next Gen program, gaining international experience and further developing her game at a high level — all while preparing for the next step.

Now, Boyd joins Chamalières, a club based in central France that competes at the highest level of domestic volleyball. It's a major opportunity, and one that speaks to the level of talent she has developed throughout her university career.

"We are so proud of her," added Schmuland. "Emma has earned this next step, and we can't wait to see the impact she'll have in France. The entire Cougar family will be cheering her on."

With a professional contract in hand and a new chapter ahead, Emma Boyd is ready to make her mark on the European volleyball stage.
