Mount Royal's men's hockey closed out 2025 with two convincing wins led by second-year centreman
Jayden Wiens. On Friday's 8-2 win over Manitoba, the former Brandon Wheat King recorded four assists, tying a MRU single-game record. Two of his helpers were primary. On Saturday, the Cougars took it to the Bisons once again with Wiens recording another assist on a third-period goal.
Wiens heads into 2026 riding an eight-game point streak, where he has registered 14 points across that stretch. The forward is tied for third on the team in points with 19.
Players Bench Female Athlete of the Week: Jerzey Watteyne
The Cougars women's hockey team earned a split while visiting the Manitoba Bisons for their final games of the year.
Jerzey Watteyne was the standout player for Mount Royal, leaving her impact on both games. On Friday, Watteyne scored the Cougars' only goal with a snipe from the slot. The forward scored again on Saturday with an outstanding individual effort, evening the score at two in the second period. Mount Royal would go on to defeat the Bisons 4-2.
Watteyne ranks tied for second on the Cougars for goals and is one away from tying her career-high of eight. The Lafleche, SK product has three goals in her last four games.
