Players Bench Female Athlete of the Week: Scout Anderson
Scout Anderson backstopped the Mount Royal Cougars to two big wins against divisional foes, the Calgary Dinos, on the weekend. The veteran netminder made 22 saves in a 4-2 win on Friday on the road and then made her second straight start on Saturday, making 21 saves in a 2-1 overtime victory. Anderson improved to 9-0-1 on the season and holds a 1.18 GAA and a .935 SV%.
Anderson has excelled this season after earning the starting goalie job and has already played the most minutes in a season during her four-year Canada West career.
The Saskatoon, SK product is a Health and Physical Education student at Mount Royal.
Players Bench Male Athlete of the Week: Josh Tarzwell
Josh Tarzwell extended his point streak to five games with a big weekend against the Cougars' crosstown rival, Calgary Dinos. On Friday, Tarzwell scored the tying goal with under six minutes to play in the third that ultimately sent the game to overtime. The forward followed up his clutch performance with a hat trick on Saturday. All three goals came in the second period, en route to a 6-2 win against top-ranked Calgary. Tarzwell also added an assist in the statement showing.
Along with Tarzwell's monumental impact on offence, the winger has also been increasingly valuable in the Cougars' own end. Tarzwell has played a large role on the Cougars' penalty kill.
The forward from Red Deer, AB is a fifth-year Criminal Justice student at MRU.
