Players Bench Female Athlete of the Week: Syndey Sctacherd
Sydney Scatcherd and the Cougars got the sweep this weekend as they faced the Brandon Bobcats.
Scatcherd led the team with 14 kills in the Friday night matchup as the Cougars took 3 sets to nothing as they got their first win of the regular season. Scatcherd also got five digs out and had a total of 17.5 points on the night.
For the Saturday night match, the Cougars took the game 3-1 as they swept the Bobcats. The outside hitter led the team again with 14 kills, and nine digs for the night as she was credited with 16 points.
The fourth-year education student earns athlete of the week after collecting a total 33.5 points as the Cougars record is now improved to 2-2 for the regular season.
Players Bench Male Athlete of the Week: Tim Beckedahl
Tim Beckedahl and the Cougars were representing the Prairie division as they took on the Thunderbirds in the Canada West Finals for men's soccer this past weekend.
Beckedahl was deemed Canada West MVP after the final game for being a pivotal piece in the Cougars win.
The mid-fielder was able to generate plays and create chances for MRU throughout more than 90 minutes of play.
The German born player applied the pressure throughout the middle of the pitch and seemed to be everywhere keeping up the plays for the Cougars in their 2-1 win over the Thunderbirds.
The second-year business student and the Cougars are headed to Toronto for the USports Nationals tournament.
