It was a chilly and sunny on Field 2 as the Mount Royal University Cougars got set to kick off against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars came out filled with energy and seemed to be controlling the game, into the 20
th minute.
In the 12
th minute Cougars,
Jonathan Walter is given a yellow card, for Unsportsmanlike Behaviour.
During the 21
st minute Huskies player Ty Lee receives a yellow card for Unsportsmanlike Behaviour.
In the 27
th minute, player of the game
Kwasi Oteng-Frimpong brings the ball down to the right corner of the field, puts the ball in net to an eager
Chanan Chanda, who lays out the perfect header to get the first goal of the game.
In the 31
st minute, Chanda has the ball to the left of the net sprinting by defenders, Huskies keeper, Jaron Slopinski comes out to challenge Chanda.
Chanda has
Luka Patik right there with him, Chanda sends Patik the ball sends the ball past Slopinski, getting his first goal of the season.
In the 41
st minute
Tim Beckedahl is in the right corner of the field, surrounded by Huskie defenders, he gets the ball in front of the net to a charging
Jonathan Walter.
Walter gets the ball past Slopinski, and nets it in the bottom right corner, to get his second goal on the season.
At half time Mount Royal is up 3-0 on the University of Saskatchewan.
Coming out of half time the Huskies are starting to gain momentum, and try to start something up.
In the 58
th minute Tao Hein is given the ball just past mid-field, decided to put matters in his own feet.
He gets by two Cougar defenders and gets to be one-one with
Bryce Benton, and gets it to the net past Benton's left shoulder with a hard shot.
The Cougars hold onto the 3-1 win.
Defence and energy was a big part of the Cougars win, with outstanding saves from Benton, defensive awareness by
Ruben Koudelka. The energy was unmatched by
Kwasi Oteng-Frimpong.
Luka Patik, comes out of Sunday's match with a full 90 minutes played, post game Patik had to say about the teams bounce back win "Our mentality was amazing going into the game. Our energy was way better than the other teams. We outworked them in every aspect."
The Cougars look to keep the energy going into the last regular season game against city rivals, University of Calgary Dinos on October 18
th.
