Players Bench Male Athlete of the Week: Chanan Chanda
Chanan Chanda and the Cougars were looking ahead to some big wins this past weekend, while taking on the Trinity Western Spartans for the quarter-final and after that win taking on the University of Victoria Vikes in the semifinals.
Chanda came out of the quarter-final match with three shots on net, and one goal. The Cougars were down one goal going into the second half of the match. In the 71
st minute after the Spartans get a foul in the keepers box, the Cougars are set with a penalty kick. Chanda sends the ball to the bottom right of the net, while Spartans goalkeeper leaps the other way and Chanda has tied the game for the Cougars.
The Cougars come away with the quarter-final match after
Clement Guay gets a goal in the 87
th minute of the match. The win sent the Cougars to the semifinals to faceoff against the University of Victoria Vikes.
In the semifinal game, after the Vikes get a goal in the 16
th minute, Chanda and the Cougars do allow them to have the lead for long, as in the 17
th minute Chanda ties up the game for the Cougars.

Alex Kemsley is set to the right of the net and gets a head on the ball, it goes directly to Chanda in front of the net and he buries it by the Vikes goalkeeper.
In the 29
th minute of the game, Walter sends the ball up to a charging Chanda down the right side of the field, Chanda beats the Vikes defender and as the Vikes keeper comes out to challenge, Chanda gets a chip shot out of the keeper and the ball rolls into the net, his second of the game, and the Cougars take the lead after that goal.
The first year, Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership student led the Cougars into the final with his performance this past weekend, while also cracking the Canada West 2
nd Team All-Stars.
Players Bench Female Athlete of the Week: Tamara Djurisic
Tamara Djurisic and the Cougars were looking to make history this past weekend, when fighting for a chance to win a playoff game with home field advantage. The Cougars got away with the win in magical form to send them to the semifinals.
The Cougars faced off against the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars go down in the 24
th minute, and into half they are still trailing.
Isabella Chirico takes the team into a huddle during halftime to generate some energy.
Tamara Djurisic seemed to be everywhere on the field, as she had six shots, and four shots on goal. One of the shots finally broke through Heat goalkeeping in the 76
th minute, when the Cougars are given a free kick just outside the top of the keepers box, Djurisic shoots the ball just out of the reach of the Heat's keeper and she ties up the game with a handful of minutes left.
The Cougars get another goal in the 87
th minute from
Darian Pluhator and the comeback win is complete and the girls are heading into BC to compete in the semifinals!
The third year health and physical education student was named a Canada West first team All-Star after leading the conference with nine goals.
