The Cougars and Huskies face off at Kenyon Court in the first game of a two-game matchup this weekend.
Cougars and Huskies are exchanging points through the first set, being tied at 10 a piece.
Ryan John gets down a kill to get the game within one, while trailing 17-16, the Cougars tie it at 17 right after and force the Huskies to take a timeout. Throughout the first set the score is usually within one point, with Saskatchewan leading, but the Cougars always fighting back.
Kale Orr gets an ace, to give the Cougars the 24-23 lead. John gets another kill to tie the set 25 a piece. With
Michael McAlpine getting another kill to get to 26. Mathieu Methot is ready for the Huskies and get them their 26th point of the set.
Cody Hudson gets down the final kill of the set, taking the win 28 to 26.
McAlpine had a total of 5 kills, including the key kill to get the Cougars up and prepared for the match point. Aaron Elser had a total of 6 kills throughout the set for the Huskies.
Points are being exchanged throughout the set, with the Cougars getting a big kill by John but the Huskies replying with a kill by Jacob Baird, to have the Huskies leading 9-8. After trailing the Cougars get up 14-12 on the Huskies, and Saskatchewan takes a timeout.
In the second Huskies and Cougars find themselves in a rally, with both teams getting out good digs,
Liam Brandsma gets a dig that leads to a
Kai Toney kill, and MRU maintains the lead.
The Huskies take the second set 25-22. Isaiah Mamer comes out of the second set with an accumulative 7 kills through the sets, Noah Opseth for the Huskies has 22 assists through the sets for the Huskies.
Grant Hill is assisting the Cougars through the sets with 19 assists, and John has 6 kills through the sets.
Into the third set the Huskies are holding a consistent lead, 8-4, and capitalizing on the 8th point with a kill from Mamer. Huskies are keeping up the lead, off a kill by Elser they keep the lead 12-9. The
Cougars have fight left and get within one trailing 14-13. The Cougars get a set tying block from Hudson, the set is tied at 18. Elser gets his 10th kill of the game to have the Huskies up 21-19.
The Huskies get down a block by Elser to get the score back tied at 23. Orr gets down the set winning kill to take the third set 25-23, as the Cougars lead the sets, 2-1. Orr has 8 kills on the night, with
Kai Toney right behind him with 6 k's heading into the fourth set. Elser and Mamer still lead the Huskies with 13 and 12 kills into the fourth.
Toney gets his 10th kill of the game to go up on the Huskies 10-8. Elser gets an ace of a serve down to get the score even at 12. The Huskies and Cougars are switching kills, including Orr getting his 10th of the game, the set is tied at 17. MRU gets the lead 22-20, the Huskies take a timeout. Orr puts an exclamation point on the Cougars getting their 23rd point of the match, as they lead the Huskies by two points.

Grant Hill. The Cougars take the game 3 sets to 1. Orr had a total of 14 kills, and 2 block assists. Hudson had 6 block assists through the
game.
Toney received his second play of the game honours in the last two weeks, he and the Cougars knew the Huskies were a tough fight, "They got bronze at Nationals last year, they're a really good team, going forward to tomorrow, tomorrow's a whole new game, they're going to play better, we're going to play better." Toney called out his teammates who deserved some praise adding that, "Cody [Hudson] was a dog, I thought Grant [Hill] was amazing, even Liam [Brandsma] our lab." Toney and the Cougars look to tomorrows rematch against the Huskies, on Kenyon Court.
